LANsultants, Inc. was founded in September of 1990 by John Miller as Center City Computer Consultants, Inc. (C4) with the purpose of providing general computer support and networking services to businesses in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Among our early activities was the development of our own law office management software, The Legal System.
Over the next three years we continuously re-evaluated the services we offered. This led us to draw up a new business plan which focused on our core strengths and the market opportunities we perceived. We decided to specialize in a single industry (legal) and a single segment of that market (firms of 9 to 99 PC’s). We also limited the geographic area we would service to Center City, Philadelphia and New Jersey’s Cherry Hill and Haddonfield suburbs. As part of our new focus, in the fall of 1993 the company was re-incorporated as LANsultants, Inc.
Our new strategic vision contributed to LANsultants, Inc.’s many advantages over our competitors: We’ve been able to develop superior expertise in computer-related issues unique to the practice of law and to obtain certification in numerous legal industry applications. As we limit ourselves geographically we can respond rapidly and with the appropriate skills and spare parts to resolve almost any computer related issue confronting our clients.
Due to the successful implementation of our new strategy, LANsultants has enjoyed almost continuous growth since our re-incorporatation, except for a small Y2K spike in 1999. This was followed by a second spike in 2005 due to the Y2K "shadow" effect and a short-term VOIP hardware partnering agreement in 2005. The company experienced a less than 7.5% revenue decrease in the great recession of 2009. This says much about the value our clients see in the services we provide. Since 2001, we have developed a third service area, Plymouth Meeting-Jenkintown, and updated our service offerings to include state-of-the-art remote network monitoring and management. This is an integral part of our migration from hardware and software sales to predominantly service.
In this period our revenue has grown approximately 10 fold and our staff has increased from 3 people to 18.
The principals of LANsultants’ are John Miller, George Miller, Jim Bennett and Cliff Wagner.
John Miller is a graduate of Columbia University School of Engineering where he earned a BS in 1980. From 1980 through 1989 John worked at a number of mining, petroleum and environmental companies where he was responsible for the implementation of PC based computer systems. John founded C4, the predecessor to LANsultants, in 1990.
George joined the company in January 1994 and has a BA from Adelphi University. Jim joined us in early 1995 and Cliff in 1996. They both have Associate's degrees in Electrical Engineering.
Prudent implementation of new technologies, focus on service over sales, and in excess of 225 years of combined experience in the computer industry are among the factors that have contributed to LANsultants' superior reputation, client satisfaction, and corporate success.
